Weekend plans

Dear James, Daniel and Emily,

It's a 3 day weekend and school is out for the boys! Yahoo! Unfortunately Kim has to work every day, thanks to the wonderful seniority system for schedule picking. We are planning on having a barbecue on Sunday which means Saturday will be a day of yard work for me. Monday we might walk down to Territory days, just to get out of the house for a while, we'll see.

I was a little late in planning the barbecue, so I won't get the attendance that I had hoped. My goal is to make this an annual event for us, inviting not just family but friends as well. My goal was to have an event of our own, Forrest has Spam-O-Rama and the Halloween Party I want to have a similar annual event that people look forward to and talk about. I also wanted to have an event on Memorial Day weekend that in some sense commemorates those people who are no longer with us. Which means more to me this year with the passing of Randy and Manny. I was really touched last year by everyone taking the time in Missouri to go to the family plot for an informal Memorial service and thought we needed something similar here. I don't intend to do anything at the actual gathering, I think that it is enough that people can all come together and have fun.

The yard work is mainly just mowing and weeding and general clean up in the yard. Kim has very diligently gotten the inside of the house pretty much cleared for action (yay for her!). So there isn't much to work on other than some little stuff.

We used to make it a point to go to Territory Days every year. But that practice has declined and when we missed it entirely last year due to being in Missouri we really didn't miss it. So it's not real high on our list of priorities as far as things to get out and do this weekend.

Quickie NBA thoughts

It's going to be an exciting Conference Championship round. I still think Cleveland will win out. It's nice to not feel any pressure in the Denver-LA series. I want LA to win, but it's no big deal to me if they lose out to the hometown team as it were. And it would certainly be an interesting series to see Carmelo and Lebron matched up. The nice thing is that so far all of the game have been good competitive games, high quality NBA basketball. It makes it much easier to watch.
