A grand adventure

Dear James, Daniel and Emily,

This coming Friday is a day off for me & the kids. So I scheduled James' parent teacher conference first thing in the morning. After that I plan to take the kids on an adventure. I plan to take them on a city bus ride downtown. Then wander around downtown, go to the park, the library, the game store etc.

My idea is to clear the kids camera's then challenge James to take a picture of each new thing we do that day. So that he is forced to really think about what we are doing and where he is. I want him to realize that some of what we are doing is new, and to appreciate it.

I want to show him how the bus works, not that I plan to put him on the bus this year, but I plan to make it a semi-regular thing so that by the time he is old enough to go off on his own he knows how to use it. I was talking with my mom last night and we were trying to recall at what age I was doing things on my own. It was different for me admittedly because I was the youngest and I can recall Dave & Dan taking me downtown on the bus, so I wasn't alone. Although when you think about it that would have been a pre-teen taking 2 younger kids on a bus ride with no parental supervision, which is pretty cool and free range on it's own.

Quickie NBA thoughts

Hurray for the Nuggets, glad to see them advance, and it's a good thing to cheer for Chauncey for once (couldn't do it when he played for the Pistons, just couldn't). I don't know if I can keep myself away from watching a Nuggets-Lakers series though.

Again though I think it is a moot point, I still think Cleveland and the Lebrons will win it all. And to be honest, watching the Cavs, I wouldn't mind. I like Lebron, and he seems to bring a joy to the game that we haven't seen in a while. I love the Lakers as a franchise, but this team and Kobe are hard to like.
