An interesting article on the very general impact that iPod's (and probably by extension MP3 players) have on society
Since I received an iPod for Christmas (thanks again Mom) I have been reading up more on them and what they can do. It is pretty amazing that I can set up a calendar, keep track of contacts, and also play games on the device. Between the iPod and the new phone I am feeling far more up to date technologically now. Which is a good thing.
One of the presents James received was a replacement Leapster. And he has been playing it pretty incessantly, and when he isn't playing it Daniel is. Which makes me ponder the impact of technology on children. On the one hand I understand and appreciate the health reasons of separating kids from electronics, and I think James 'gets' more from his Lego playing time in terms of stimulating his imagination.
But they are growing up in an ever more digital world, and I want the kids to be able to compete and operate on an equal footing with their peers. So if that means working with electronic devices at an earlier age, so be it.
