Dear James, Daniel and Emily
Another full week down, except for the kids, who had yesterday off. Good running this week, high for time and distance since I started this program, but not so much for eating. Committing myself to a game of Warzone this weekend with James as there are no major projects or events to plan for that will take up my attention. Not real focused on football though, kind of enjoyed that last weekend. Also trying to keep the politics to Tumblr, so don't be afraid to click on those links on this page.
Family
Only major plan is a family birthday party, but that is at someone elses' house, and no major planning for us so should be restful for us. The kids did well this week, including handling a day with Grandpa Pete (thanks again Dad, and should I say Grandpa survived the kids?). No real problems with James pacing his homework for once, or doing their chores. So the planning ahead and setting up that routine is paying off, even if staggering the bedtimes is a little intensive I think it works better.
Training
Ran over 14 miles combined this week! That's a high for me. And also ran for over 2 hours combined, another high. And by adding the stretching routine at night before I go to bed I think I have fought through and solved the problem of the knot in my calf that was refusing to go away a couple of weeks ago. It's little stuff like that that make all the difference, especially at my age. I am planning on adding a new routine next week, but won't go into details until I really get started with it and commit.
The changing diet is going well overall. My dairy and meat intake has been cut dramatically. And I actually did well after the first week of avoiding the Halloween candy. My big problem has been getting the appetite back under control, I realize that even though I am eating healthier, I still don't have a license to pig out.
Miniatures
Didn't crack the paints at all this week, gotta get back to that. First, because it is a fun diversion. Second, it is a good thing to do in the evenings that focuses my attention. I think part of that will come from getting an actual game in with James this weekend. Life has just gotten away from me for the past month, but no excuses this weekend.
Routine
First week went well, stuck to the menu pretty well. Kids did their daily routines of homework and chores. And we didn't even have to resort to the board for reinforcement. But the initial stages of developing a routine are always like that. The key is combating the elements of chaos that trickle in after that first stage that is hard. So we have to take the time on Sunday to map out the next week, and then stick to it again.
Football
Even though the Broncos are playing again this week I am going to make a concerted effort to not plan my day around the games. If we are home, and nothing is on tap, I will watch, but ideally it may only be a backdrop while we do other stuff. Of course the weather being what it is it is much harder to achieve that, it's hard to get away from the TV when you are stuck at home while it is snowing and cold outside.
