Dear James, Daniel and Emily,
I passed the first weekend of my phasing out of meat and dairy with good results. This despite some fun times with the boys, last soccer games of the fall, James birthday party. It was a full 3 day weekend that was for sure. I have 2 more of these 4 day weeks, and I think I have taken more than full advantage of them so far, but it will not be too painful to return to the normal work week.
Family
The boys and I had a good day Friday. I took them up to Denver to the mall where the Lego store was. They enjoyed the shopping (although there was some endurance towards the end, when I was still browsing and they were ready to leave). And we had some decent drives without any major arguing or bored fighting.
Saturday we wound up the soccer season. Emily played the most of any game this season, she might play again in the spring, we'll see. Daniel endured another game, no major issues, although still no signs of interest in doing anything other than just running around aimlessly. I think that is one reason he likes baseball, there is no chance of real physical contact, he can just hang out until called upon to hit or pick up the ball. James team tied again, leaving them with another undefeated season. Which quite likely might be a bit of a swan song for this group as many of them will be forced into other options due to age.
Sunday we had James birthday party for his friends. It was a good time, playing Laser Tag. Everyone had a good time, including the parents who participated. I think this separation of family and friends really works for James. And Kim had a good time making yet another elaborate cake.
Training
Friday I slept in and then tried to run in the afternoon, after the trip to Denver, and my body just wasn't willing to keep up the pace. I am just so used to running in the mornings. But that's OK. Today was particularly tough, with intervals, but I pushed my way through it.
My plan to phase in the new eating habits is to start for now with limiting myself to 1 meat and 1 dairy portion per day for the first couple of weeks. And I was able to do that over the weekend, despite some difficulties Sunday night with my usual bored hunger. I am less focused on the processed food part of the diet for now, although I am trying to keep the sugars under control as usual.
Kim & I talked about the diet, and she has accepted what I am trying to do, and agreed to start phasing it in for the family meals to some extent. Although she hasn't read the book, and so doesn't fully buy the argument that she doesn't have to have as much calcium, and that the kids don't need as much fat, but I'll take the effort for now. Eventually she will sit down and read the book and come around to the ideas behind it.
Football
1 for 3, with the 1 win being the least likely going into the weekend. I'll take it. I did a much better job of restricting my viewing to just the Bronco game, and parts of the Sunday night NFL game, which really is my goal for the long term.
Mad Men
That was one of the most forgettable, anti-climactic season finales one can imagine. I guess I hold the show to a higher standard. I was just disappointed with the season overall, it was pretty uneven, and the finale was an example of that. I can only hope that something better happens next year.
Miniatures
Finally got down to business and finished my Cybertronic painting. Now all I have to do is seal all of them and I can move on to the next army. It has been a lot of fun working on these again, even as I learned things like my vision is changing. I didn't get in a game with James, but future weekends that should be easier with our getting our Saturday mornings back.
