Dear James, Daniel and Emily,
Catching up on a few things for the week, plus a glimpse of some things I have been doing to fill up my time. This week has been a bit of slog at work, but things at home have gone well. I have had a chance to get some painting done. Also Kim found the motivation to get another project to a better stage. I decided to undertake, for what should be the last time, an epic reading quest.
Family
With Danny and other family in town Kim found the motivation yesterday to clear off our porch. The expectation was I was going to help when I got home but she got some help from Connie and Austin, so it was done before I even got off work. All of this is in preparation for us to host a birthday party for Connie on Saturday afternoon after soccer.
But I have a hidden agenda, as I have some time off coming up I am hoping to take at least one of those days to get a couple of more coats of stain on the deck in preparation for winter. It would probably be fine as is, but I want to be sure it is well treated while we still have the chance.
Miniatures
I picked up some more paints on Monday, and now can look forward to getting some real painting done. I know that these painting jags are often fleeting, but I am enjoying this while it lasts. Although I still need to get a pair of reading glasses to help that process, I can at least get some of the less detailed work done now, and so long as I limit myself my eyes don't hurt too much.
All of this renewal of my hobbies, coming at what is a week or 2 of dead time for TV viewing has me thinking about cutting back a little on that TV time when my fall shows start. Not that one is better than the other necessarily, I just feel better about the painting. Plus it has the added benefit of being something I cannot possibly eat while doing, so it cuts the evening snacking off.
Reading
So I have decided to undertake a massive reading project. Since the last book in the Wheel of Time series is due out this fall I decided that it was a good time to reread the series from book 1 on till the end. Which means reading 12 lengthy books. But I have been such a fan of the series from the get go, and own the entire series that I feel it is the only proper way to do it right. And so far it has been fun to return to that world one more time, from the beginning.
Of course one of my anticipated books just became available for pickup from the library so the quest will go on hold once I get that book, but that book should be a relatively speedy read so the hold won't be too long. Unless another book comes in at the library... oh well, I guess there are worse things in the world to deal with than having to juggle too many books to read.
