Keeping the weekend momentum up

Dear James, Daniel and Emily,

New Experience planned for this weekend.  We (my immediate family, plus Kim's family) are going on a family camping trip.  We are just going down to Lake Pueblo for 2 nights, but we will sleep in sleeping bags in tents, so it is a truly novel experience for the kids.  I am looking forward to it, I hope the kids have a good time.

This is not the camping I grew up with of course.  This will be what my father might have derisively called 'car camping' at one time (he has backed off that and mellowed as he has gotten older).  But it's a start, I would like there to come a time when the family throws on backpacks and hikes into the mountains away from the car and camps.  But I also know from personal experience that overdoing that too early can really burn the kids out.  So it will be car camping for now, which as I said is a start.  One step at a time, get the kids used to sleeping outdoors, and eating food not prepared in a kitchen or fast food.

Sports

As expected CU will become a member of the Pac-10 (11?, 12? 16?).  And as I explained to some friends at work, this is a good thing for me due to my personal history of following and cheering for the Pac-10 schools.  Now it remains to be seen what happens next, the dust may not even settle for a couple of months.  I do know 1 thing for sure: Adios Huskers!

And as expected the Lakers lost Game 4 last night.  It looks like everyone's expectation of the series going 7 is looking real good.  It is getting harder to avoid the games, I had hoped the next game would be Saturday night, but the odd NBA schedule is doing me in again and I will have to find a way to avoid the game on Sunday night again.

Of course I am just now realizing how little World Cup I will actually get to watch due to the time differences.  My weekend mornings are usually pretty full and that would be the only time I could really watch any of the games.  Sigh, I just have to find ways to squeeze it in when I can.
