Remembering Manny

Dear James, Daniel and Emily,

It was a year ago tonight that Manny went into Cardiac Arrest. He never recovered from that and the subsequent shock and surgery. While his body hung on for several months after that to all intents and purposes he was gone from our lives that night.

I wasn't what you might call close to Manny, we were too different for that. But he was the closest person in my life to pass away since my grandmother Ruch passed over 20 years ago. And rarely does a day go past without my thinking of him in some fashion. He was too big a part of my family life for him to just be forgotten.

In the immortal words of Hunter Thompson: "He stomped Terra". He had a lot of friends and played a part in a lot of people's lives. And his effect on our life is hard not to notice. And a family event doesn't occur without my half expecting Big Red to pull up and him to come in and announce he would show us 'rookies' how to play whatever game we were playing. So tonight I am figuratively raising a toast to him, and letting him know that we all miss him, and he left us all too soon.
