Because I am a political rabblerouser I have to bring this up
The issue: The Federal government charges .18$ a gallon on gas, a flat tax, which ostensibly goes directly to infrastructure like keeping up highways, repairing bridges (Remember Minneapolis?) etc. Some politicians have suggested dropping this tax for the summer months as a relief for consumers.
McCain: Suggested this first
Hillary: now says it's a good idea
Obama: this is a stupid idea
Here's the kicker, with the exception of the one's working for campaigns, virtually every economist in the country says this is a stupid idea. I for one don't see how lifting the tax will have any effect on my habits, I still will have to drive to work. So what are your thoughts on this? Does anyone think this savings will make a difference in their lives?
The federal tax appears to be only about 5 percent of the cost of gas. I've been thinking for several days that whether or not it disappears, it wouldn't make ANY difference to me. Hasn't the price of gas risen about 20 cents a gallon over the past month? Have driving habits changed? Being a tax-and-spend Democrat, I'm with the economists!
